- Not really.
- Hmm. I'm not sure.
- Please. It's perfect for you! You'll be the envy of your friends!
- I pray to the gods for the fighting to stop.
- I wish they'd listen to you.
- I thought I heard hooves.
- You must be hearing things. Believe me, you'd know if a centaur was close by.
- Bet he's at the tavern again.
- That's the first place I'd look.
- I hear there's good money workin' for the Inquest.
- As long as ya have no morals, it's a good-paying job.
- The trade caravans are getting unreliable.
- Damn centaurs.
- Oh, hi! You're %str1%, aren't you? I've been hearing about your exploits. What brings you to Claypool?
- Just stopping by. Anything going on around here?
- Are you a blacksmith?
- Just passing through. See you around.
- We made it.
- Are the bandits a big problem?
- And you're a blacksmith, correct?
- I am. My family have been smiths for four generations now. We supply everything from simple farm tools to sturdy weapons and armor.
- Do you sell your weapons and armor here?
- Not for me, they aren't. Since we provide a fair amount of weapons and armor to the locals and the Seraph, they help us stay in business.
- So then you profit from the conflict. Does that bother you?
- Ready yourself, friend. With our force at half-strength, this is going to get ugly—fast.
- Absolutely. Just track down one of our merchants here in the city. If you pick up a weapon in Divinity's Reach, chances are it came from our forge.
- What about Howl? He was our warband's lieutenant. Did he die, too?
- Thanks. I might just track down one of your merchants.
- Hmm. I never really think much about it. We provide a service. What our customers do with our product is on their conscience, not mine.
- I see. Well, thanks for the chat.
- Welcome to Claypool! Might I interest you in a bit of Claypool history?
- Sure.
- No, thanks. I was never very interested in history.
- Claypool was born out of Princess Salma's victory during the War in Kryta. With the aid of the Seraph, people were able to settle the Talmark Wilderness.
- Why did they choose to settle here specifically?
- How did Claypool get established?
- I changed my mind. I have something else to do.
- There used to be a secret river passage that ran through here. One of the Seraph's first missions was to secure the route, so that it couldn't be used by smugglers.
- How did that help Claypool?
- I think I've learned enough for now.
- Smithing was the big one, both then and now. Though back then it was commonplace to trade armor and weapons for other items instead of money.
- How did Claypool grow after it was settled?
- You've been such a big help. I can't take advantage of your labors anymore. Please, go see Kevach for some of his hospitality. It'll make me feel better about myself.
- The forges and smiths of Claypool were far superior to anything else in the region at the time and brought many people looking for quality weapons, tools, and armor.
- What's happened since then?
- In two ways. First, the Seraph presence attracted those looking for a safe place to settle. And second, it allowed trade to flow unimpeded.
- What sort of trade went on back then?
- The smith is still at the heart of the village, of course. But with the relative peace around us now, we subsist as much on farming and fishing as we do smithing.
