- To be honest, I was skeptical. Maybe I still am. I've spent a long time hating charr. That hatred tends to get in the way of seeing what can be accomplished by our two races.
- Anything changing your mind?
- I talk with Legionnaire Frazarblade. She still hates us, but she's trying to get along with humans. It's strange, but I can relate to what she's going through. It's like we got something in common.
- I hear a "but" coming.
- But I don't think we'll really see peace until both of us are dead and the new generation takes over. The rest of our lives will be devoted to making sure we give those kids that chance.
- We should be reaching our objective any moment now.
- Psst! You know who the captain's talking to?
- No? Who?
- Not interested.
- That's Kroganna Frazarblade, Butcher of the Siege Plains! For years she destroyed the forces we sent out beyond the wall. She fought like a monster!
- And now she's a member of the Sentinels?
- Yeah, I heard that after Kralkatorrik swept down south, she joined their ranks to fight his minions. They say that she was too proud of her charr herritage to join the Vigil.
- Tower of Nightmares Diver
- Queen Jennah's bold plan to recover the Claw of Khan-Ur started this peace summit. I'm hopeful that the events that transpire here will be a great benefit for humanity everywhere.
- I notice there's a representative from Ebonhawke here.
- I am hopeful as well. Good luck.
- Of course. The people of Ebonhawke have suffered greatly during the charr siege. It's only right that they should have a voice here as we discuss the future of their land.
- That's thoughtful of you.
- Fighting the dragon's minions will require a change of tactics. Less subterfuge and more direct assaults. Deceit and stealth are ineffective against them.
- So you think peace is possible?
- Interesting point.
- I've watched the situation long enough to know both sides need this peace. But I also know that every treaty is a power play. You exert the right power at the right time, you get to call the play.
- A good truism to live by.
- The humans were able to fend off our attacks for centuries. The question remains if humans can be as tenacious when we fight the dragons together.
- You think we won't be?
- That's an interesting statue. What is it?
- They just better hold up their end when the real fight starts. I don't want weaklings and cowards watching my flank.
- This won't work. I didn't budget any time for being lost.
- Sure, yeah...peace for everyone. Can we get this over with now? There's a cannon prototype I need to finish.
- You don't seem to want to be here.
- Sounds like you've got your priorities straight.
- Talking means less time at the forge. Can't understand why we just can't get this done now. Just sign the piece of paper, shake hands, break camp. Boom, boom, boom.
- You think peace can happen just like that?
- It should. But it doesn't look like that's going to happen. With all the breaks we're taking, I'll still be standing here next month. I can feel myself rusting on the spot.
- Surely it won't take that long.
- I thought once we got to the peace talks, it'd be easy. But this has been as much a challenge as anything we've faced before!
- Why is that?
- After years of war, I'm surprised you thought any of this would be easy.
- It's the extremists. The Renegades would rather kill other charr than accept peace with the humans. I hear they're stockpiling munitions for an offensive against the summit itself!
- What about the local humans? How are they taking the treaty?
- Ebonhawke wants peace, but some humans are willing to burn the whole treaty down rather than admit the charr have won Ascalon! They call themselves Separatists. I'd say "lunatics" is a better name.
- Maybe bringing them in for the talks would appease them.
- I wish you luck then.
- Hard to say. They're craft, resourceful and determined. They attack in small groups and try to cause as much trouble as they can before they're over run. They a nuisance, but they could jeopardize what we're trying to accomplish here.
- There's no way to talk peace to people who only want more war. We've had to write them off completely. Our best hope is to hold them in check until they fade away.
- Hopefully that'll be enough.
- We've got centuries of hatred to undo here, and we've got rogue elements using that hatred to undermine the peace talks. Anyone could be a threat.
- You think peace can be achieved?
- How do you know I'm not a threat?
- If the Renegades have their way, no. They're a bunch of crazed mongrels who broke away from their warbands because they think it's better to murder humans than end the insurrection.
