• In 872 AE, the Emperor Angsiyan was slain by his bodyguard, Shiro Tagachi. The release of mystic energy transformed part of the kingdom into Jade.
• In 1072 AE, Shiro, assassin of the emperor, lingered as a vengeful spirit in that land, eventually using his power to warp living things and create the mindless Afflicted, which terrorized the land.
• In 1077 AE, The Ministry of Purity was formed to combat the Afflicted.
• Did they succeed?
• Yes, but they turned their zealous attention to all things they thought were not of Cantha. That belief has contributed to the great empire retreating and closing its ports to others.

• I understand more about their philosophy. They see the Ventari Tablet as manipulative and false, and they seek to free others from its influence. They see themselves as the saviors of the race.

• One of her lieutenants betrayed her. Lady Glaive escaped, but she lost most of her crew. Supposedly, their ghosts haunt the caverns. The traitorous lieutenant was cursed to join the ranks of the undead.
