- A Ranger's Road
- The wardens I meet on the road are never content to stay within the walls of a city. City life is ponderous, confining, tedious, and worst of all - civilized.
- When you walk in a city, you must watch for the people around you, ready to apologize when a stranger bumps into you or suddenly crosses your path. The walls of houses and shops kill the wind.
- The air is stagnant, and the stench of imprisoned animals is everywhere. That may be a fine life for a merchant, a guard, or even a duelist, but not for me. That is the very reason I became a ranger.
- As a warden of these lands, I know every hill and valley, every ridge and river. When I was young, my mother would ask me to walk two blocks to the marketplace, and I would trudge there like it was a punishment.
- Now when the spirit takes me, I run to the other side of a kingdom, crossing continents, searching for the dead spots on my maps. A farmer plods, but a ranger runs.
- She always travels faster alone... with windborne speed, she crosses a league with every stride.
- The wind calls, and I must answer it. As I whisper prayers to Dwayna, I run until my feet barely touch the ground, soaring over every blade of grass like a spring zephyr. There is no plodding peasant in my path to whom I must apologize.
- Instead, I see where the breezes kiss the ground, and my path appears unseen before me. I am an avatar of speed, and I am unstoppable. Every road is freedom, and I am free.
- The land rebels. Herds of animals, packs of predators, squads of soldiers - they're always alarmed at the sight of my swift running, raising their claws, horns, swords, and spells against me.
- I dodge, I flow, I parry in a swirl of flashing blades, as no attack can wound me, no injury can slow me. As the river must flow, so must I keep running, because I answer to no law save that of the wild: survival of the swiftest.
- As I run across my domain, I tame this land. I conquer it. It is mine.
- And if these words stir your heart, you must run with me.
- The open road awaits you, warden. The wilderness calls to you, ranger. Answer it, and run with me.

These aren't just innocents, they're potential Pact recruits, so it's imperative that we free the prisoners and shut down the slavers. I've got Crusader Apatia, formerly of the Lionguard, standing by on the lakeshore. She remembers you from Claw Island and is quite keen to work with you again. Good luck. —Marshal Trahearne
