- When I was a mite younger, I ran with some bad folks. Did a little forceful redistribution of wealth. Managed to get out, but some of my friends didn't want to give up that life.
- Tangle Root
- How did you get out?
- That's all I care to hear.
- Let's just say it wasn't strictly by choice. I put my trust in the wrong sort, and ended up on the wrong side of it. The magisters weren't too happy about it, but the Seraph stepped in and offered me another option.
- What was the choice they gave you?
- I don't want to waste my time with a felon. I'll be going.
- Well, let's just say the Seraph found me and gave me a choice: join them or spend six years in jail. Didn't take to the idea of extended capacity too well, so I joined the Seraph.
- So, what's the current situation?
- Another time.
- Hmph. The world ain't as cut and dry as that. Problem is, I never ratted on my friends. Meaning the Seraph still have reservations about my trustworthiness. Hence my current situation.
- And what is the current situation?
- By the Six, I've no more time for this.
- I know that trouble's brewing. But my commander is a stubborn woman who refuses to believe me or my friend. And she's cookin' up a cockeyed plan of her own.
- Northern Entanglement: Clear out the jungle corruption.
- It seems that if you've proven yourself to the Seraph, they should at least hear you out.
- Well, can you really blame them? It sounds like you still have connections with those thugs?
- Maybe your commander was simply as bored as I am. Good-bye.
- You've got the right of it. My contact says there's going to be an attack, and that means there's going to be an attack. Thing like that only deserves one response.
- Northern Entanglement: Vine Boss
- Who's your contact?
- What exactly are the bandits planning to do?
- When are they going to attack?
- Not interested.
- An old friend. More than that a time or two. She and I are still in contact sometimes. She owes me. More than words can say.
- How is it that a Seraph is friends with a bandit?
- That sounds personal. I'd better not inquire further.
- It gets a mite complicated. Do you want the long version or the short version?
- The long version. I like to know the whole story.
- Keep it short. We don't have a lot of time.
- Neither. I have other things to do.
- The Seraph can't gain any ground here. The terrain makes it difficult to get units and supplies in and out, and between the wildlife, the Inquest and the bandits, they're stretched thin.
- Eastern Entanglement: Vine Boss
- It's obvious that the bandits have mostly free rein.
- Simple. I like that. Bandits are training recruits for a suicide run. I'm fixing to make it so that they don't get that chance.
- Northern Entanglement: Hold back the regrowth.
- What's the timetable for this suicide run?
- I'll keep an eye open. Thanks, but I need to be going.
- No idea. But I'm not going to sit around waiting to be a victim.
- Let's suit up and find the source of these fumes.
- They have even more camps and a fortress to the west. The Seraph are just plain outnumbered and there seems to be an endless train of men and supplies coming from that fortress.
- What is it exactly that the bandits are planning?
- Ack, I changed my mind. This is really going to take a while, isn't it?
- I know how outlaws think. They won't rest until they've run out every last one of us and completely cut off both trade and travel between the north and south. Least, that's what I would want.
- How do they plan to achieve this?
- The Seraph have a small outpost at Hidden Lake. The bandits know that if they take it out, they'll be able to knock the Seraph back on their heels. They've got a dozen or so recruits primed for a suicide run.
- When is this all supposed to happen?
- Throw a ball of napalm that explodes on impact, burning foes around target location.
- I'm itching to cause some trouble. I can always use an extra blade at my back.
- What sort of trouble did you have in mind?
