- This piece of the Great Northern Wall has eroded. After 250 years of rain, wind, and snow, its edges are smoothed. It once kept Ascalon's enemies at bay. Now, it's returning to the land.

- Based on the location of the rubble, it seems likely that it was struck from the sky.
- The section of the Great Northern Wall appears mostly intact. Although there has been some structural damage, seemingly from fire.
- Examine more closely.
- Under close examination, the residual marks of flames on the wall reveal the shadowed outline of a human figure. It's as if magical fire hit so hot and so fast that it burned the victim's image in the stone.
- The wall that once guarded Ascalon is now marred with graffiti carved into the stone. Most of it is unreadable, but a closer examination might reveal something more.
- Examine it more closely.
- The deepest carving reads, "Hide, little mice. Hide! Soon, your city will be ours!"
- You notice a piece of rubble that appears to have writing on it.
- Careful where you step. This is the remains of the city of Rin. The Durmand Priory is conducting excavations here.

- What do you do for the Durmand Priory?
- Then I'll just be on my way.
- Our devourers have been trained to sift for artifacts and remains. We've got several digs going on at once here.

- What sort of projects are going on right now?

- I'm a scholar. I specialize in the study of ghosts and spectral phenomena. I'm undertaking a side project when I'm not conducting research here in our main dig.
- Side project?
- What are you hoping to find with the main dig?
- Yeah, they're perfect for this kind of job. They do all the digging, and we don't get too detailed until they find a major cache of artifacts.
- What do you expect to find?
- You mentioned other digs?
- Good hunting, then.
- We're tracing the path of Ruik—the human prince—as he assaulted Bonfaaz Burntfur's forces, two years after the Searing.
- A secondary study, led by Jorg over there, is looking for the Tome of the Fallen. And when I have time, I have a personal project I'm working on.
- What's your personal project about?
- I study the ghosts of Ascalon—from a distance, of course. There's an observation point on the wall north of here that's perfect.
- What do you hope to discover about the ghosts?
- It sounds like you're busy. So long.
- I hope to discover how the ghosts came to be. The better we understand destructive magic like that, the more we can improve our defenses against it.

- No, I'm actually the youngest by a whisker. Sten is the most senior here. Then Jorg. But this is my project. I conceived it, I initiated it, and I decide how it proceeds.
- What's the focus of your research?

- Jorg and Sten have undertaken their own studies. Jorg is looking for a mysterious tome. That book is thought to have been misplaced during Rurik's assault on Rin.
