- The Hook warband has worked this lake since we left the fahrar. I'm the only one left. It won't be long, and we'll have a changing of the guard here at Lake Feritas.
- What happened to the others in your warband?
- What do you do out here?
- You think they'll replace you?
- You do your warband proud. See ya.
- Over the years, they all died off, one at a time. I'm the last one alive, and I guess that makes me a gladium. I don't mind. I'll just keep on doing the job we were put here to do, until a new warband is assigned to fill our spots.
- A loyal soldier is a remembered soldier. Be well.
- We were assigned by the previous tribune to maintain the lake. We've spent years making sure no one over-fishes it and that the waters remain clean and healthy. I've fought everything from skale to drakes to elementals in this lake. I'll be sad to leave it.
- It sounds idyllic. See you later.
- They'll have to. I can't keep this up alone for much longer. Already, I need help whenever the Flame Legion or drakes flare up. I feel no shame. I've lived well and worked hard for the legions. I've sacrificed much, and I figure I'll go out fighting. It won't be long.
- May you drown in your enemy's blood. Good-bye.
- She's in a rage! I wouldn't turn your back on her, if I were you. An enraged broodmother can fry you before you even know what hit you.
- Good advice!
- It's a good day when the cow flies aren't biting. Are you interested in ranching? We've got quite a set-up here.
- Who is we?
- I know. I helped get the cows back in, remember?
- Interesting. I'm going to go now.
- Name's Crushmaw. I handle the day-to-day operations on the ranch. My boss is Ironrustler. She's stern, but fair. I'm learning from her so I can have my own ranch some day.
- What happens on this ranch?
- Hopefully one without wurms, right?
- Good to know, but I'm going to leave now.
- This ranch is the source of all the beef consumed in Smokestead. Impressive, right? We couldn't survive without cattle, and these cattle are some of the finest.
- Are you in charge here?
- So it's a good thing I helped get the cows back in, I bet?
- You said it. I couldn't have gotten them to come back without your help. I hate wurms. I hate them more than I hate claw rot.
- Who's in charge around here?
- Happy to help. What's the purpose of this place?
- No problem. I'm going to leave before more show up.
- How am I going to herd all these dumb cows by myself? They were spooked by wurms and broke out. I could use your help getting them back in the pen.
- You're on your own. I have other priorities.
- Achieved a score of 10 without being disabled or leaving the brawl.
- Now you're talking!
- The harpies are getting sassy again. They're after the mortars. If we don't do something, they'll destroy them, and we'll have double the work.
- Point me at the harpies. I'll turn them into feather clouds!
- I've got other priorities.
- We need elemental lodestones for our mortars. They're the perfect shape, size, and weight for knocking harpies out of their nests. Let me tell you, that's something worth seeing!
- Is this what you're looking for?
- Really? How can I help?
- Do you have a harpy problem?
- Nah. I'm going elsewhere.
- That will do the job nicely. Thank you!
- You're right. But the sleep deprivation is causing me to hallucinate. I may have to simply turn my work in late. I didn't think being an apprentice would be this grueling.
- There are earth elementals all around here. If you kill some, you can collect their lifeless body parts.
- Like these?
- Why do you need their body parts?
- I'll give it a try then.
- That's an understatement. They make regular runs at our mortars. Our repair crews have to work extra hard to keep up. We're tired of it, and we plan to do something about it! But, we need more lodestones to make it happen.
- Are these the stones you need?
- Tell me why you need lodestones?
- Wish I could help, but I'm needed elsewhere.
