- We've been out here a handful of days, but I can tell Castora is something special. The other norn feel it; I wager even the sylvari feel it, too, in their own way. Nature is mostly unbound here, even with the presence of the castaways—wish my daughter could've joined me out here for a hunt or two. I suspect there are many great marks, fierce beasts to witness my prowess. I'll ask around—maybe the locals can put me on the path of something unique, something worthy of my legend, or least, something the folks back home haven't seen before. For now, I'm taking in the sights, the smells, the sounds. I feel as though I can hear a cacophony of wild spirits—spirits who're yet unaware that I am listening. I can hardly believe it! I will commune with them in time—make my presence known. To befriend a new spirit would be worth the trip by itself.

- *(A new-looking book, a folded page of parchment marks the reader's place. Unfolded, you notice it is covered in notes.)* Grateful to have my boots on solid ground after two weeks on the seas, fathoms deep in recent studies on ley-line magic. "A Study of Ley-Charged Jade and Its Promising Applications" by Taimi and Yu Joon, "Manipulating Raw Ley Energy in a New Era" by Scholar Glenna, and this one I'm reading to refresh myself on the basics. The Bastion of the Obscure requested I join the Castoran expedition crew to assess and record any unusual ley-line behavior in the region. I'm just one of a few surveyors to remote regions once blocked by Elder Dragon activity. I even heard one of my peers was in talks with the asura and dwarves. Feeling like I lucked out, from where I'm standing. Warm coastal breezes, a stunning horizon... What's not to like? I can already tell this land is ripe with ley magic. It practically bubbles up from the earth and water, coalescing in these brilliant orbs along the beaches, in the rocks, in the plants. I know better than to bother Isgarren while he's lost in his thoughts, but it'd be nice to add his knowledgeable perspective to my notes.

- I hauled myself up, swatting pinching creatures off me, squinting in the moonlight. Crabs. Everywhere. A body lay near my feet. Sobbing, I struggled to heave Margot off the sand. I could just make out the dark shapes of others who'd washed ashore, coughing, sputtering, kicking at the skittering crustaceans. A low, booming rumble from the clifftops above shook the beach. Then another. "Margot... What was that?" Margot stood limply, slack-jawed. BOOM! Darkness enveloped the beach, an impossibly vast silhouette blotting out the night sky. A great shadow lanced down from the clifftop like black lightning. Screams echoed off the rock walls ahead. "We're going to die. Margot. Margot!" Just then, a strange, round shape shuffled by, ambling TOWARD the cliff. Its green-tufted head turned, looked back at me and Margot, and then seemed to disappear into the rock wall. I slapped Margot full in the face, jolting her awake. "RUN!" BOOM! More screaming. Shadows arced skyward. Something bounced off my shoulder with a wet thud—a severed arm? A foot? I sprinted toward the rock wall, dragging Margot—or was she dragging me now?—legs burning, blood rushing. We reached the wall, tumbling forward into complete darkness. I could go no further. We lay in silence, lungs on fire. The booming stopped. My eyes slid closed.
