- The keystone is tucked within the deepest well of our city—out of sight, hopefully far from the nose of an Elder Dragon. And yet, our efforts to open it fail and fail again. It is sealed by magic that eludes myself, Manikaz, and Otho—and the latter is losing patience with us. The table of the Arch Steward no longer invites the city's alchemists to delineate, even as we stare down the very real possibility of ruination. All we can do is continue to try. Even shut, the gate seeps with vile energies from the Mists... As deep as it rests within Bava Nisos, hopefully those energies will remain at bay. No one is allowed near it, except those with high tolerance for the spectral energies that corrode the air around it.

- Working in collaboration with an illuminate from the Astral Ward, we've begun research on the magically dense mirrors that are strewn throughout the city ruins. Upon inspection, this illuminate has informed me that these mirrors are tethered together via a type of magic called shadowcraft. Prior records on shadowcraft are brief and limited to observations of mursaat cloaking abilities. In practice, the mirrors are portals, or gateways, and are connected to a small dimension that exists between Tyria and the Mists. When someone travels through one of these mirrors, their essence is temporarily distorted, and they are able to quickly jump from one mirror to another.

- Well, that was harrowing. But it will be worth it to study this magic while it's still unspoiled.
- Preliminary tests have been promising, but I believe I have tapped into something significant regarding the bloodstone. There is an invisible resonance—threads of a magical lattice—that connects most bloodstone. The smallest shards and slivers are likely too small to maintain a proper connection, and it can be severed or blocked by other means—but in theory, these threads could be used to move souls from one bloodstone to another, even those far away. For those of us well practiced in the necromantic arts, we may even be able to project our own souls through this network! The possibilities are exciting! This could change everything about how we maintain the stones and how and where we pool their resources. I must show Seraf when he visits tomorrow. He will not be so quick to scorn my methods after he witnesses my breakthrough. Perhaps a toast will be in order?
- When you thought you were close to the Peak, a dredge would knock you back.
