• Contrary to local legend, Viathan Lake never held a native leviathan population—in fact, it is too small to support even one. This was amply demonstrated when the krait, working to establish a deep settlement in Kessex Hills, used an unknown method to magically translocate their "protector" from the Unending Ocean. The leviathan quickly depleted its natural food sources and began lunging out of the water to pursue livestock and humans from short distances on land. It was eventually slain by fishers, but it had already been weakened by hunger and apparent krait attacks; it was likely desperate enough to attempt to hunt its worshippers.

• Any analysis of the Searing would be incomplete without exploring the history of magical escalation in conflicts throughout Tyria. Attempting to determine which party was justified in using overwhelming force does not help us predict future catastrophes, but a pattern emerges when we examine who had reason to believe that they were cornered. This belief does not need to be accurate to lead to tragedy, and taking the final step is rarely a sound tactical decision. Once one party has used devastating arcane weapons to claim a decisive victory, the long-term results are more often a chain of reckless last stands and societal collapse.
• Commissioned for the joint coronation of Queen Dahlah and Queen Nahlah, the last rulers of the Primeval Dynasty. The sisters adopted twin cobras as the symbol of their reign, representing the duality of venom as a deadly poison and powerful medicine. Pairs of these large cast-metal sculptures were erected in cities and villages that hosted the queens during their royal progress and scattered during the Scarab Plague. A discarded original design depicting a single cobra with two heads was not practical for rapid assembly.
