**Entry 1**
While I continue to mourn the fact that I was not elevated to the role of principal biomancer, being a prime candidate to see Sebb's work to fruition following his passing, I continue to find small joys in my new surveying assignment. While mapping the marsh, I've begun conducting personal research on the native beetle species. They fascinate me, and perhaps I can extract useful biodata for future utilization.
**Entry 2**
Blast! I was bitten by one of the beetles. A matriarch, likely come to retrieve the larva I extracted. I had to abandon my camp in a hurry. The research I lost...
But never mind my research! My insides burn with ceaseless pain. I managed to drag myself to a secure alcove and administer an antitoxin from my surveying medical kit, but it seems to be doing very little against the beetle's venom. I called my krewe leader for aid, who...laughed at my obvious discomfort. She dubbed my ailment a "fortifying challenge" and demanded that I use the opportunity to craft a remedy in case anyone else is afflicted by the toxin.
While attempting to formulate a plan, I heard a sharp cry from the clearing where I was attacked. Shortly after, a gwyldell—one of the treant-like beings on the island—collapsed on the ground nearby. Another victim. In the days prior, I'd witnessed the creatures tending to the moths and their cocoons throughout the marsh. I suspect one of the beetles got too close, and the gwyldell intervened.
I watched as it writhed against the ground. I tried not to make any sudden movements as to not scare it away. After all, the perfect test subject for my own remedy had fallen into my lap.
